Many colourful strands intersect in that one sentence. We are dreamers, who believe in daylight dreaming too!

We envision people walking together, shoulder-to-shoulder, talking, singing, reading, researching, writing, dancing, and standing up to power and oppression, each in their own way.

We look at organisation building and sustaining as our first programme area, which is as intensive and valuable as our other programmes. The domain that does the work of organisation building is named “Chettu Kaandam”. Like our other programme domains, which build and strengthen groups, organisations and individuals, Chettu Kaandam strengthens Avaazein as an organisation.

Chettu kaandam brings this to the foreground and gives the organisational team’s labour the respect and acknowledgement it deserves. It holds our values and beliefs that include peace, equity, justice, dignity, equality, secularism, diversity and love, as much as dissent and disagreement.

Kaandam ensures that each voice in the team is heard, spaces are shared, and each team member feels a sense of belonging, irrespective of age and position. Even though the team has varied hues, shapes and textures, it blends together to create striking visuals and imagery.

As a social impact organisation, just as we expect the world to be a better, more inclusive and just space, we turn that mirror towards ourselves too. Chettu kaandam or the tanaa makes us try to live by these same values each day.”
