TAANA-BAANA:
WEAVING COLLECTIVE
DESIGNS
Grants Programme
The term “taana-baana” means warp and weft (of a cloth) in Hindi and Urdu. Vertical threads meet horizontal threads and make designs and patterns based on the weaver’s imagination.

For Avaazein, taana-baana would encompass that sense of interdependence, of interlocking ways of doing, expressing, sharing ideas, skills, perspectives, and knowledge and seeing the world around us. There is an inherent concept of mutuality and complementarity between Avaazein Foundation and the grantee partners.
Taana-baana is about partnerships and collaboration, a conviction that groups working at the grassroots bring a deep understanding of the communities and the movements they belong to and work with, while Avaazein Foundation supports them with its understanding of diverse contexts, experiences from various movements and with financial and other resources.
The intersection of designs and colours recognises power and privilege, and looks for different ways in which this can be shared across space and time. New ways to learn, re-learn, interact, dissent, disagree, yet walk shoulder-to shoulder towards shared goals.
PURPOSE OF GRANT-MAKING

OUR GRANTEE PARTNERS
At Avaazein, we would like to support groups whose values align with those of the Foundation. These groups would ideally have a small set up, work locally, and in areas where there are few or no NGOs, at the district, block, village, hamlet or basti level. Groups would focus on diverse issues, based on democratic and constitutional values.
We are in partnership with the following groups and organisations:
